To help keep you up-to-date on all things Salem Parks & Recreation, we have created a monthly newsletter. Listed below are some of the exciting things that will be going on in Salem this month!
Special Events
Olde Salem Days

The City of Salem and the Rotary Club of Salem host Olde Salem Days to showcase the talents of the region’s artisans and crafters for the benefit of residents in Southwest Virginia.  All event participants share in the warmth and beauty of our Roanoke Valley community. The aim is just not to produce a fun special day, but to also in the process raise funds for community service projects.

Date: Saturday, September 8

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Main Street

Shuttle: Free shuttle from the Salem Football Stadium

Food: Food Court located at the Salem Farmers Market

Charity: Olde Salem Days benefits the Rotary Club of Salem

 

 

LewisGale Salem Half Marathon

Come run the LewisGale Salem Half Marathon, Virginia's Blue Ridge 8K or G&H Contracting Kids Fun Run. The run will start and finish on Main Street with all your friends and family cheering you on as you come down the home stretch. With the help of Blue Ridge Racing, this is the only Half Marathon & 8K put on in Salem. 

Date: Saturday, October 13
Races: LewisGale Salem Half Marathon, Virginia's Blue Ridge 8K, and G&H Contracting Kids Fun Run (one or two mile option)

Time: Race begins at 8:00 a.m.

Location: Race begins and ends at the Salem Farmers Market

Youth Sports
The goal of our athletics program is to provide an enjoyable experience for each youth participant, while developing character, sport related skills, sportsmanship and promoting good will among all teams and individuals.

Registration for Boys & Girls Basketball begins Tuesday, September 11 and runs through Sunday, October 14.
Senior Center
The Salem Senior Center is celebrating its 46th anniversary this year. One thing has never changed through the years at the Center...........all senior citizens are welcome and encouraged to participate. We offer something for every senior citizen. Stop by the office and we will be glad to show you around and make sure you have a monthly newsletter. Activities, travel, classes, and friendships are what makes the Center a welcoming place to come.

49ers Plus Club Fall Festival
A Flea Market, Crafts, Food, and more!
Date: Saturday, October 20
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 
 Vendors: If you or someone you know would like to be a vendor, sign up in the office. Cost is $10 per table and 10% of your sales.
If you have any flea market items that you’d like to donate for this event, see Vickie or Brad in the office.

Luncheon Bingo 
We will be serving spaghetti. Please bring a NEW wrapped gift valued at no more than $4-5 dollars to be used as a prize!

Blessings Box 
There is a “Blessings Box” located near the front side of the Senior Center designed to help out anyone in need in the community. If you have or would like to purchase any non-perishable food items and place them in there it would be appreciated! Thank you!

Community Activities
Shred It & Protect It
FREE Shredding Event! Have documents laying around at home you need shredded? Bring them to our Shredding Event at the Salem Civic Center and have them shredded for free! Limit three boxes or bags per car.
Date: Saturday, September 22
Time: 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Location: Salem Civic Center (front parking lot on the left side of the building)
Limit: Three boxes or bages per car

Pickleball Courts
The Pickleball courts located between Oakey Field and the Salem Museum have offically opened! They will be open sunrise to sunset. Be sure to stop by and use these new courts!

Summer Camps

2018 Summer Camps have officially concluded! Thank you to everyone who participated in our camps throughout the summer! Be sure to check back in January for our 2019 lineup!
